No Reports of Looting in Oceanport

Rumors are circulating about possible looting in Blackberry Bay area. Police say no.

Capt. Dan Barcus of Oceanport police says rumors about looting in town are false.

According to the Barcus, there have been no reports of looting in the Blackberry Bay area, or anywhere in town.

"We have had scavengers, he said, "but no looting."

Chief Harry Sutton reported at Thursday's council meeting that his officers are working 12 hour shifts with half the staff on each shift.

Barcus said officers are stepping up patrols and making extra stops of anyone they don't recognize in the area, not only to stem off criminal activity, but to reassure residents.

The storm, he said, has caused enough trauma to residents. "Now you don't have to worry about someone stealing your stuff."

"We're keeping an eye on vacant houses," Sutton said, adding that officers are keeping an eye on garbage pickers.

"We're getting a lot of complaints," he said, from residents who don't like that, "my guys are stopping a lot of people. We'll continue to until the town is secure."
