Shannon Winning is an independent reporter covering the redevelopment of Fort Monmouth on her blog Future of Fort Monmouth, launched in February of 2013. Before  joining Patch as a writer and guest editor in 2011, Shannon was a  freelance writer with a focus on environmental issues and recreational  boating, with bylines in Northeast Boating (formerly Offshore) and New  Jersey Countryside magazines. She is also a former  managing editor of The Hub newspaper. She began her work in writing as a  editorial assistant at Working Woman magazine but left the city to  pursue local news, starting out as a reporter for the Wall Herald.

Shannon lives with her extended family, including her husband and three children, in the home she grew up in on the Shrewsbury River.
