I am a writer and educator living in Little Silver, N.J. I recently fused my two loves—writing and teaching writing to adolescents—and founded JC Writing Studio in Fair Haven, where I offer creative writing workshops, college essay writing workshops, and one-on-one instruction to students in grades 6 to 12.

My own writing career began as managing editor of Teacher Magazine in Washington, D.C., back in the early 1990s. My work there inspired me to attend Teachers College, Columbia University, where I received my Masters in English Education and spent time teaching in the Bronx and Manhattan. I then spent a year teaching writing to children in New York City’s foster care system, publishing a now award-winning magazine titled Represent.

After relocating to the Jersey Shore, I became an English teacher at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, where I taught for seven years under my married name, Campanella.

I took some time off to raise my three children (ages 11, 9, and 7) but continued to write, including PR work for the RFH Board of Education and the Little Silver PTO. I am currently a contributing writer for the Journal publications and am working on a young adult novel and a book on divorce.

I hope to inspire young people to love writing as much as I do and to help them cultivate their voices and experiment with narrative techniques to develop their own styles, building confidence that will transcend all areas of their lives.
