County says it hopes to open the facility in the spring of 2013.
Dormant now for more than a year, Fort Monmouth's Teen Center and its pool in Tinton Falls will see new life next year under the ownership of Monmouth County. This week the Fort Monmouth Economic Revilatization Authority approved the transfer of the property to the county under a Notice of Interest program, where the Army conveys a property to an entity at no cost, for the good of the public. Freeholder Lillian Burry, who is a member of the board of FMERA, thanked the board for its approval of the NOI and said the facility will be regional. "We're anxious to have it opened and functioning in late spring," she said. Though the county won't pay for the property directly, it will come with costs. As part of FMERA's developer agreement with …

Resolution stems from comments recently made by Monmouth County town officials
Tinton Falls Mayor Michael Skudera has drafted a resolution asking Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) to improve service to its towns and customers. The resolution stems from comments and suggestions made by various Monmouth mayors and officials at a regional summit held in Tinton Falls last month to discuss how JCP&L handled Hurricane Sandy. "Mayors and representatives from more than 20 municipalities where represented in this meeting and their comments and concerns have been reflected in this resolution," Skudera said in a release. Officials at the meeting criticized JCP&L's lack of communication and information with their towns and agreed that the utility company should make some changes. The Army is slowly releasing its grip on 1,126 acres of prime Monmouth County real estate. Want to know what's happening to it?
Refurbished historic homes, new eateries, sports facilities, a health club, an office park, those are all among the likely new uses for the former Fort Monmouth. Right now the former Army post is more than 1,000 acres of property right smack in the middle of one of the most desirable areas of Monmouth County. But if you are like many residents who live close to the fort, you have no earthly idea what's happening over there. Local governments, schools and the county have all put dibs on their favorite properties. Big business has already secured one plot. Small businesses also are getting in on the action. Redevelopers say they expect to see significant redevelopment of the fort within 10 years — that's new homes, businesses, recreation …

You've heard of farm to table. How about farm to garage? Find out how your neighbors have been getting their share of organic food.
If you thought Whole Foods was the only way to get fresh, organic produce, then you need to stop by Robin Wallace's garage. Like most suburban garages, Wallace's is home to a collection of strollers, skateboards and power tools. But two mornings a month it's also an organic grocery where Wallace plays host to a pod from the Purple Dragon-Co-op, a Glen Ridge-based company offering organic foods at near wholesale prices. Long before the sun rises on a Wednesday morning, this Oceanport mother of three receives a bulk delivery of fruits and vegetables from Purple Dragon, which she divides into 14 equal shares in very unglamorous reused cardboard boxes and plastic bags. Often there is still some dirt on the lettuce and the fruits lack the …
