Completion of safety upgrades led to bridge opening ahead of schedule.
The bridge that connects Sea Bright and Rumson reopened to all vehicle traffic on Friday at 11 a.m., according to Monmouth County spokesperson Laura Kirkpatrick. Safety upgrades were completed ahead of schedule, Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone said in a statement on the county's Web site.

The bridge replacement could be a decade away, county officials stress
It could be as far as a decade away, yet the prospect of replacing the ailing 62-year-old Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge has people poised for and bucking some of the changes it may bring. Area residents were out in force last week at the Rumson public forum at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School on the years-away project now in what's been deemed its conceptual development phase. A preferred plan out of roughly a dozen drafts has surfaced. It's a melding of what were deemed the top two proposals at a meeting of stakeholders in June. The plan would, essentially, call for a realigned similarly designed drawbridge with four lanes rather than the existing two, increased and beautified walking paths and islands, a cul-de-sac, a smaller park (or …

The schedule has been revised to keep the bridge open on weekends.
The official word is out on the schedule of the pending Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge closure. After review of the potential ill effects of Hurricane Sandy-recovering Sea Bright and myriad public objections raised, Monmouth County officials have revised the closure schedule for the upgrade the safety systems on the bridge, closing it on weekdays starting Jan. 28, but reopening it to accommodate weekend traffic, a county release said. “At the request of local businesses and the governing body, the county will has modified the closure schedule,” said freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the county’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “It is important that businesses that are open get the support that they need; however, it …

Word came to Woody's owner and Sea Bright Rising founder, Chris Wood, from Freeholder Director Thomas Arnone that the bridge will be open on weekends.
On the eve of his restaurant re-opening, faced with the oxymoronic joy of post-Hurricane Sandy progress and pain of a pending Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge closing, Woody's Ocean Grille's Chris Wood got some great news — he was told the compromise he'd rallied for in staggering the bridge's closing days was coming. And, as of Wednesday morning, when Wood said he got the confirmation call he had been waiting for from Monmouth County Freeholder Director Thomas Arnone, that compromise became a reality. That compromise, he said, looks like it's going to call for the bridge that funnels traffic in and out of Sea Bright to still close on weekdays starting "on or about Jan. 28," but to be open on weekends, or Friday nights through Sundays, and closed …

Woody's Ocean Grille is fifth business to open in Sea Bright; Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge closure pending for five days after opening.
As Chris Wood hustles to lighten and liven up a Hurricane Sandy-dimmed downtown Sea Bright with the re-opening of his restaurant, Woody's Ocean Grille, on Wednesday, his spirits have been daunted by the prospect of the looming Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge closure. With Monmouth County officials estimating that the bridge will be closed off to traffic for a few weeks starting "on or about Jan. 28," right after now-closed Oceanic Bridge is re-opened, it's like telling Wood that the lifeblood of a major artery in and out of town, to and from his and the only four other open Sea Bright businesses, is clotted. "This is killing me. It's knocking me and the other Sea Bright business that just got back on their feet down after reviving ourselves from …

There will be two meetings held today to discuss the future of the Rumson-Sea Bright bridge.
Do you think the Rumson-Sea Bright bridge is due for a replacement? The county is looking for your opinion. Today, residents are invited to attend one of two meetings scheduled to discuss the future of the Rumson-Sea Bright bridge. “These meetings are part of a local concept development study,” said county Engineer Joseph Ettore. “This is the beginning of a detailed process to determine if the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge should be rehabilitated, replaced or kept as is.” On Monday, Feb. 27, Monmouth County will hold two public meetings about the status of the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge (S-32) over the Shrewsbury River between Rumson and Sea Bright: “The bridge that connects Sea Bright and Rumson is being evaluated for possible rehabilitation or …
