The Oceanport racetrack will kick off its 68th season on May 11.
As Monmouth Park gears up for its 68th racing season, it has introduced a new logo to commemorate its first calendar year under new management. The silhouette of the horse charging across the Oceanport racetrack's new logo is modeled after 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and her winning run in that year’s Haskell Invitational. “It’s an exciting logo that marries Monmouth Park of the 19th century with that of the 21st,” said Bill Knauf, vice president of business operations. “While continuing to use the traditional green that has long been associated with Monmouth Park, the new logo adds an ocean blue creating the Monmouth Park summer atmosphere.” Monmouth Park opens for its 2013 season on May 11 and will feature 61 days of racing …

Trainer Bruce Alexander will saddle a pair of 2-year-old Don’s in Saturday’s divisions of the Jersey Juvenile Stakes for state-breds at Monmouth Park. Don Six’s Number, out of the mare Lu Lu’s Number, will break from the rail in the Jersey Juvenile’s filly division while One for Don, from the mare Twirly Girly, will go to post in the colt’s division. Both runners are sired by Don Six, winner of the 2005 Longfellow Stakes at Monmouth Park. The Monmouth Park Task Force, chaired by Oceanport Mayor Michael J. Mahon, released a statement yesterday that said they are pleased with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority's choice to begin negotiations with real estate developer and Resorts Casino co-owner Morris Bailey for a five-year private lease to run Monmouth Park Racetrack. The NJSEA expects to turn over track operations on June 1. According to a report by the Asbury Park Press, Bailey was one of eight prospective track managers who each submitted a $25,000 refundable deposit check when the process began on March 10.
