What I've Learned to Let Go of as a Mom
Moms, how has your parenting changed over time?
When I was pregnant with my first child, I resolved to be a certain type of mother: hands on, self-sacrificing and ever vigilant. Lord, I was ambitious, not to mention energetic. I threw myself into breastfeeding, enduring several rounds of thrush and a clogged milk duct, in my almost hysterical need to provide only the best nutrition for my infant. I went on to nurse the next three babies as well, withstanding moments of terrible pain and becoming the sole-source of nutrition for long stretches, so much so that the baby would look at me and open his mouth. Let’s not even go down the sleep deprivation road, it makes me tired. It would have been so easy to pop a bottle of formula in the baby’s mouth, or better yet, get the dad involved in …

Great article Amy! I think we change our parenting style as we gain more knowledge, support, and become more comfortable as moms. My oldest is 7 and did not have a lolipop until he was at least 3. My youngest, 2, had one by 18 months - and many since! I think we learn what battles to choose. I give my kids sweets, but they eat tons of fruit and healthy foods.
