Hurricane-Damaged Monmouth Waterways' Cleanup Contract Awarded

CrowderGulf, headquartered in Theodore, Alabama, will undertake local cleanup and dredging effort

An Alabama company will undertake a massive cleanup and debris removal effort in waterways following Superstorm Sandy. State authorities have removed more than 1,000 boats since the storm hit, but the remains of many others, plus debris resulting from everything from destroyed homes to derelict vessels previously undetected pose a threat to navigation as the spring boating season draws near. Three companies were awarded contracts to clear New Jersey's waterways of debris, hopefully before spring arrives. Donjon Marine will be responsible for the northern portion of the state, from the New York border to Raritan Bay. CrowderGulf, of Theodore, Alabama, will be responsible for the central portion of the state, from the Navesink River in …

Christie: 'I Don't Know' Who Romney Will Pick for VP

The governor accuses statehouse Democrats of holding his tax cut plan 'hostage' during a stop in Manasquan.

Gov. Chris Christie said today he does not expect to be former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's pick for vice president. "Hopefully (Romney) picks a smart, well-qualified person who's ready to be president and ready to support him as president," Christie said Monday in Manasquan. "Who that's going to be? I don't know. I assume we're going to hear relatively soon what his decision is." The governor, who is set to head across the U.S. this week to campaign for Romney, kicked off his tour of the Jersey Shore at the Manasquan Pavillion, where he touted the tax cut plan that he said statehouse Democrats are "holding hostage." Christie, fresh off what he described as much-needed vacation after getting into a verbal scuffle with a passerby on the…

For seven years I worked with law enforcement officers to get illegal guns off the street, prosecute gang members, thwart terrorist plots at Newark Airport and Fort Dix and throw corrupt politicians in jail. I know how hard your work, and you deserve a governor who will stand with you. While I have put forward proposals to cut taxes and cut spending so we can bring change to New Jersey to make it…   more ›

Gov. Christie in Manasquan at 3 p.m. Today

Inlet first stop on 'Endless Summer Tax Relief Tour'

Gov. Chris Christie, who for months has been touting his income tax relief proposal for all New Jerseyans, will make an appearance Monday in Manasquan to do just that.  Christie is scheduled to speak at 3 p.m. at the Pavilion at the Manasquan Inlet, 431 Beach Front, for the first stop in what's being called the governor's "Endless Summer Tax Relief Tour: A Conversation at the Jersey Shore."  "(Christie) will call for Corzine Democrats to stop holding tax relief hostage and urge the legislature to continue the New Jersey Comeback and provide bipartisan leadership by delivering tax relief to our citizens, making our state more competitive and allowing us to put more New Jerseyans back to work," according to a release from the governor's …

So, based on this and some other blog posts here on Howell Patch, I decided it was necessary to create a website with the purpose of making Howell tax payer waste visible and open it to the the public to submit where they see our tax dollars being wasted. The site just went up Sunday night and already had 4,000 hits, including about 40 from the US Govt....most of the others were from this area. I…   more ›

Local Mayors Support North Jersey Towns' Movement to Dump JCP&L

Dempsey and Doherty say company cares more about profits than customers

As two northern New Jersey municipalities are asking the state for permission to switch from Jersey Central Power & Light to another electricity provider, the mayors of Manasquan and Belmar, whose residents are JCP&L customers, said they wished they could do the same. Last week, Robbinsville and Warren Township filed requests to the state Board of Public Utilities for permission to switch to Public Service Electric & Gas, while 14 other towns are also considering the same move, the Star Ledger reported Dec. 2. But both municipalities border the PSE&G grid and a portion of Robbinsville is already powered by the company, while Manasquan and Belmar are miles away. Both Manasquan Mayor George Dempsey and his Belmar counterpart Matthew Doherty …

When there is a hurriacane or large snow storm coming the power companies call cotractors and put them on standby. This way they have the extra manpower for when the lines go down. Jcp&l did not do this for Irene. They told the contracors that they could handle it in house. When they could not handle the outages & finally called for help all of the contracors were working with other power …   more ›

Inspector Faces Bribery Charges

Man allegedly accepted bribe while working for soil conservation district

A man from the Manasquan Park section of Wall Township is facing charges in Monmouth County Superior Court after he allegedly accepted a bribe from an undercover officer while working in an official capacity for the Freehold Soil Conservation District. John Tonon, 51, of Lakewood Road, is charged in relation to an Oct. 26 incident in Hazlet in which authorities say he accepted $700 from an undercover officer of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, to influence his work as a soil conservationist and inspector. According to a release from the Prosecutor's Office, the bribe was intended to expedite the permitting process for a recently built home. The second degree crime is a violation of state statue NJSA 2C:27-2 which prohibits the …

It would be foolish to believe that this "undercover" officer just happened to be there to become a foil in a bribe situation. There had to be complaints, reports, tips, etc. about this man's "Official Conduct" before he was caught. I believe the Prosecutor's Office should investigate the matter further to determine if the "bye" given the BRSA on its soil conservation permit violation, during the…   more ›
