Last Chance: Deadline Approaching for Little Silver Spring Rec Sports

Don't get stuck with the $50 late fee after Feb. 7.

The deadline to sign up for Little Siver Recreation spring sports is fast approaching. Residents interested in signing their K-8 child up for baseball, softball or lacross have until Feb. 7 before a $50 late fee is imposed. Because many teams fill up quickly, latecomers are not guaranteed a spot on the roster. Little Silver Recreation is scheduling free indoor baseball, softball and lacrosse clinics in March at Point Road School Gym to prepare players for the Spring season. There will be coaches only sessions such as “Organizing An Effective And Fun Baseball/Softball Practice” as well as kids’ clinics in hitting, pitching and fielding basics for both baseball and softball. Lacrosse sessions will concentrate on catching, passing, cradling, …

After Feb. 7, not only does the late fee kick in but also there is no guarantee of a roster spot as we close out registration for teams that are maxed out. Lil' Silver Rec Camp's Triumphant Finish

All the summer shenanigans with Mr. G at Markham Place sadly come to an end today. The kids enjoyed a fun Thursday, and who knows what's in store for Friday's finale!

One more sign that summer has to come to an end, Little Silver Rec wraps up tomorrow. Even though my kids have moved on to RBR, I must still be on the list for the Little Silver PTO newsletter, the first one of the year was sent out Thursday morning, reminding me that school starts on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, a little over a month away. How is that possible?  It seems like Rec started just yesterday, but in reality the kids who participated have celebrated Mardi Gras, Halloween, BUC day,  Peace & Love Day, and today, Spirit Week to name a few.  Thank you to our Rec Director, Mr. G, his assistant Amy Wood, and their dedicated staff of counselors. Lots of tatoos, ice pops, raffles and whipped cream!  Nearly 100 kids ranging from …

Little Silver Rec Celebrates Peace and Love

Campers tie-dyed and exchanged friendship bracelets on a cool Thursday at the Markham playground

Since Monday, the kids and counselors at Little Silver Rec have been toiling over their tie-dye projects in anticipation of the Peace and Love party held today. Once again, the best part of the day was when Mr. G. drove up with a cooler full of ice pops, everyone began to cheer as they saw his car pull into the parking lot. There was lots of tie-dye, peace signs, friendship bracelets, tattoos and funky glasses. At 11 a.m. PJ stepped up to the microphone and began calling numbers for raffle prizes, Ashley recorded the numbers on the board so kids could see if their number was called.  Today there was a lemonade stand with baked goods.  All proceeds from the sale will benefit NJ Special Olympics.

Campers Trick or Treat and Beat the Heat

Little Silver Rec celebrated Halloween in July despite the high temperatures hovering near 95 degrees this morning.

One of Little Silver Recreation Director Doug Glassmacher's favorite holidays happens to be Halloween, and this morning at Little Silver Rec Camp, Doug pulled out all the stops to let the kids celebrate.  Despite the heat of 95 degrees this morning, kids from Little Silver showed up in some fun Halloween costumes had their faces painted, enjoyed the sprinklers, won raffle prizes and went home with "goody bags" filled with fun. Next Thursday, the kids will celebrate Peace and Love Day.  If you are on Facebook, find Little Silver Rec and LIKE them.
