5 DWI Arrests in Little Silver Last Month

The incidents were part of the Little Silver Police Department's blotter for March.

Little Silver Police report the following incidents in March: March 1- A resident from Sunnylands Ct. reported Harassment after receiving several unwanted phone calls by a known acquaintance. P.O. Peter Gibson investigated. March 5- Patrick Adams, 51, of Oceanport, NJ, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on Branch Ave. for Driving While Intoxicated. P.O. Eric Van Schaack made the arrest. March 6- A resident from Seven Bridges Rd. reported a Burglary after discovering that an unknown subject(s) smashed a window out to his vehicle during the early morning hours and rummaged through his personal belongings that were inside. Little Silver Police: Man Stole ATM Card, Withdrew $2,600

A Sayreville man was arrested and charged with using a Little Silver resident's credit card and withdrawing money illegally.

Little Silver Police arrested a Sayreville man Wednesday who is accused of using a resident's credit card to make illegal ATM withdrawals, according to court documents. Sylvester M. Abenah, 29, 99 Winding Wood Dr., Sayreville was arrested March 20 and charged with taking a Little Silver resident's credit card and making $2,600 in ATM withdrawals. Bail amount was set at $10,000 and first court appearance is set for April 4. Det. Greg Oliva investigated and made the arrest.

Little Silver's Officer Marty is NJ DARE Officer of the Year

Sgt. Martin Scherzinger has been the face of the district's DARE program for over 20 years.

He's been talking to Little Silver students about making good choices for over 20 years and now the borough's Sgt. Martin Scherzinger has been chosen as New Jersey's DARE Officer of the Year for 2013. "Officer Marty does an exceptional job reminding students that good decision making is a life-long skill," said Little Silver Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carolyn Kossack in her letter of recommendation for Scherzinger's nomination. She said that Scherzinger, known to the students as "Officer Marty," goes beyond the 10-week DARE program for fifth graders that advocates drug and violence prevention. Hydrant Work Could Cause Delays in Little Silver, Police Say

Little Silver Police issued an alert about work on Branch Avenue and Rumson Road that could cause delays through Thursday morning.

A message from the Little Silver Police Department: Expect traffic delays between the hours of 11 p.m. Wednesday until approximately 6 a.m Thursday in the area of Rumson Road and Branch Avenue. The NJ American Water Co. will be making repairs to a fire hydrant at the intersection. They do not anticipate any reduction in water pressure or service to residences in the area, although it may be possible.

Little Silver Businesses Report Fraud, Harassment

The Little Silver Police Department police blotter included arrests for theft, possession of fraudulent drivers license and DWI.

January 1- A resident from Sherwood Rd. reported Credit Card Fraud when they discovered that an unknown subject was making unauthorized purchases on his credit card. P.O. Eric Van Schaack and Det. Greg Oliva investigated. January 3- Mark Drzewiecki, 18, of Shrewsbury, NJ, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on Branch Ave. for Possession of a Fraudulent Drivers License. P.O. Little Silver Woman Indicted for Allegedly Assaulting Officers

Jodee King, 42, was indicted by a grand jury following an Oct. 27 incident in Little Silver.

A Little Silver woman is facing three counts of aggravated assault following an indictment handed down by a grand jury last week, according to court documents. Jodee King, 42, 587 Branch Ave., was charged with assaulting two Little Silver police officers in October. She also faces one count of resisting arrest following the Oct. 27 incident. King faces two counts of aggravated assault, a third degree crime and one count of throwing bodily fluid at an officer, a fourth degree crime. According to police records, King was arrested following an incident on Branch Avene and also charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct. Officer Amanda Arnold and Sgt. Kevin Halpin made the arrest.

Little Silver Police Salaries Approved for 2013

Two percent increases across the board are part of the three-year contract that expires at the end of next year.

The Little Silver Borough Council approved 2013 salaries for members of its police department at its Jan. 28 meeting. The salaries, which represent a 2 percent increase across the board, are stipulated in the Little Silver Police Department's three-year contract that expires at the end of 2014. Employees hired before January 1, 2011 will be compensated as follows: Employees hired after January 1, 2011 will be compensated as follows:

Little Silver Man Assaulted by Brother, Police Say

The Ocean man is accused of kicking the victim in the ribs.

An Ocean man has been charged with assaulting his brother, who lives in Little Silver. According to court records, the Ocean man kicked his brother in the ribs on Jan. 13, causing difficulty in breathing and severe pain. He was charged with aggravated assault and held on $5,000 bail with a 10 percent option. His first court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 7.
