PHOTO GALLERY: Wearin' of the Green at Little Silver Firehouse

The annual St. Patty's Day party brought the community together for an afternoon of music and fun.

Falling snow for most of the day did little to dampen the spirits of partygoers gathered beneath the tent at the Little Silver Firehouse's Annual St. Patrick's Day Party. When we stopped by at dinnertime, there was Irish dancing, plenty of beer and corned beef and hundreds of members of the community celebrating the annual wearing of the green.

22 Kegs + 700 Lbs. Corned Beef = Tons of Fun at St. Patty's Day Celebration [PHOTOS]

The annual St. Paddy's Day party in Little Silver has gone from firehouse fundraiser to town-wide party in four short years.

By 6 p.m. on Saturday, the crowd that turned out for the fourth annual St. Patrick's Day celebration at the Little Silver firehouse had already gone through 600 hot dogs, 1,200 paper plates and more than half of the 700 lbs. of corned beef sliced up for the occasion. Patch ran upstairs to see what was going on in the firehouse's kitchen and found members Shawn Mery and Joe Senkeleski finishing up food preparations. Mery estimated that the sunny, spring-like day would bring out over 600 partygoers and they were trying to keep up with the demand for potatoes, cabbage and chicken fingers. About 250 folks preregistered for Saturday's party, said Mery, adding that he expected people to come not just from Little Silver but also neighboring …

Little Silver Appreciates Its Coaches

The Recreation Foundation hosted the Third Annual Coaches Appreciation Dinner at the firehouse on Friday night.

Coaches came out from behind the sidelines on Friday night as their volunteer efforts were applauded at Little Silver's Third Annual Coaches Dinner. The event, sponsored by the Recreation Foundation and catered by RBR's Culinary Club, was designed to "show some love" to the volunteer coaches and assistants for the borough's recreation sports programs, according to Little Silver Recreation Director Doug Glassmacher. The evening also included special recognition of two retiring volunteers for their many years of service to the children of the borough. Terry Flynn, who initiated the Little Silver's kindergarten soccer clinic in the mid-Seventies and introduced about 3,000 children to the game, said he had seen former players come back to the …
