Chimney Fire on Lippincott Thursday Afternoon

A neighbor noticed heavy smoke Thursday afternoon at the Little Silver home.

A chimney fire spread to an interior wall of a Lippincott Road home on Thursday afternoon. Cracks in the chimney helped fuel the fire at 29 Lippincott Rd. around 2:40 p.m., according to Little Silver Fire Chief Andrew Smith. He said a neighbor noticed the heavy smoke building outside the ranch style house and alerted homeowner Gene Barkey. "All of a sudden is just started getting smoky," Barky, who's lived in the house since 2005, told Patch. "We've been using [the fireplace] nonstop since the storm," he said. Smith said that wood burning fireplaces need to have chimneys cleaned regularly to rid the interiors of buildup, which can ignite. Little Silver Family Unhurt After House Fire

Shrewsbury, Tinton Falls, Red Bank offer mutual aid for structure fire on Branch Avenue

A Little Silver family is safe after a fire Saturday at their Branch Avenue home. Firefighters initially responded to a call for a porch fire but arrived to find a fire on the second-floor balcony in the rear of the house that was extending to the roof, Little Silver fire Chief Andrew J. Smith said. The residents had already evacuated the home, the chief said. Shrewsbury responders joined Little Silver firefighters in initiating "an aggressive interior attack" that kept the fire from spreading, Smith said. They doused the flames and placed salvage covers in the home to minimize water damage. Two firefighters received minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The blaze is under investigation by the Red Bank Fire Marshall and the Little …

The trailer of a flooring company working inside a home at 2 Queens Drive in Little Silver burst into flames shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, spreading to the home's garage before it was quickly extinguished by volunteers from the Little Silver Fire Company.
