Monday night's reorganization meeting for Little Silver's borough council will include the swearing in of a number of key borough volunteers. Councilmen David Gilmour and Dr. Richard Scott will take the oath of office to serve three-year terms following wins in November. Long-time councilman Donald Galante will be sworn in for a one-year term. Officers for the borough's first responders will also take the oath of office for 2013. Gilmour, Scott and Galante win re-election
Republican incumbents David Gilmour, Richard Scott and Don Galante won re-election Tuesday night. With almost 86 percent of votes counted, Gilmour garnered 1,765 votes and Scott 1,834 votes to challenger Dan Levine's 924 tallies. Gilmour and Scott won full terms. Galante earned 2,060 votes to continue a one-year unexpired term. There was little surprise in the race for Little Silver Board of Education, as Christian Smith and Lorre Weisman, who ran unopposed, won with 1,602 votes and 1,539 votes, respectively. Meggan Bateman received 1,640 votes for a two-year unexpired term, and Megan Clarke garnered 140 write-ins for a one-year unexpired term. Things just got interesting for Little Silver voters with the recent addition of another candidate vying for two seats on borough council. Dan Levine, who served on council for three years before losing his bid for mayor in 2011, will run as an Independent candidate to regain his seat on Nov. 6. Levine, who owns Little Silver Community Hardware, will oppose Republican incumbent David Gilmour and Dr. Richard Scott, who was appointed to serve on the council following the death in September of Councilman Jonathan Bitman. Levine, who has lived in Little Silver for 45 years, has served as a borough-appointed representative to the Northeast Regional Sewer Authority for 10 years and held positions as treasurer and chair of the finance committee …

Jonathan H. Bitman, 52, of Little Silver, died Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank after a courageous battle with cancer. Jon had a strong sense of community and an even stronger love for his family and friends. Born in Newark to Edward and Sonya Lazerwitz Bitman, he was raised in Millburn. He attended Kean University and played semi-pro football for the Jersey Oaks. Jon has been a resident of Monmouth County for the past 28 years, and in Little Silver for 18 of those years. He was a Little Silver Councilman from 2003 to 2012. While he was a councilman, he was active on many committees, among them were the Little Silver Public Works, Fire, First Aid and Newsletter and Police and Emergency Preparedness. He also served …

I have attended numerous council meetings over the years and as far as can recall Mr. Levine voted for all of the budgets - so what's the spending issue? I have attended numerous council meetings this past year, but have not seen Mr. Levine in attendance voicing his dismay over a much needed recreation/storage/restroom facility and additional town parking.
