The deadline to sign up for Little Siver Recreation spring sports is fast approaching. Residents interested in signing their K-8 child up for baseball, softball or lacross have until Feb. 7 before a $50 late fee is imposed. Because many teams fill up quickly, latecomers are not guaranteed a spot on the roster. Little Silver Recreation is scheduling free indoor baseball, softball and lacrosse clinics in March at Point Road School Gym to prepare players for the Spring season. There will be coaches only sessions such as “Organizing An Effective And Fun Baseball/Softball Practice” as well as kids’ clinics in hitting, pitching and fielding basics for both baseball and softball. The Feb. 3 clinic will focus on the fundamentals of the game for girls sixth grade and younger.
Lacrosse season is right around the corner and girls have the opportunity to learn the basics of the game from the pros next month and support a great cause. Monmouth University will hold a clinic on Feb. 3 featuring the university's players and coaching staff for girls sixth grade and under to benefit the Kortney Rose Foundation. The clinic, which will run from 10 a.m. to noon, is $50 per player and supports the Oceanport-based foundation that is dedicated to raising funds to support research and education related to the treatment and cure of pediatric brain tumors. Shore Regional’s girls lacrosse team entered Wednesday’s Shore Conference Tournament in an unfamiliar position and exited it with a familiar feeling. Despite having lost twice during the regular season to top-seeded Rumson-Fair Haven, the second-seeded Blue Devils stunned the rival Bulldogs, 9-7, on the artificial turf at Monmouth University’s Kessler Field to win their eighth SCT title in school history in the 14-year history of the tournament and their sixth in the last seven seasons. Shore is nearly unbeatable when it reaches the championship game, as it ran its record to 8-1 in SCT finals. Rumson dropped to 1-4 in SCT finals, with all four losses coming to Shore. Boys Lacrosse (12-3) The Bucs cruised over Toms River South 14-6 in the first game of the Shore Conference tournament Tuesday afternoon. Their next game will be played away against No. 1 seed Rumson-Fair Haven on Friday at 4 p.m. Girls Lacrosse (7-6) The Lady Bucs delivered a 14-2 hurting to Long Branch (0-13) Tuesday. The Red Bank Regional Buccaneers marauded the Ranney Panthers by a score of 13-2 on Friday afternoon. The Bucs took a 6-1 lead into halftime. Senior Zach Witter scored thrice, Karl Degenhart, Mike Harran and Charley Olman each had two goals apiece and Nick Caruso added a goal and an assist. Red Bank Regional was seeded no. 8 in the Shore Conference tournament this week. They will begin play Tuesday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. at home.
Red Bank beat Shore on Monday for their eighth straight victory, but lost to Holmdel Wednesday.
Red Bank Regional (10-3) defeated the Shore Regional Blue Devils on Monday afternoon by a score of 13-1. Zach Witter scored 4 goals with 2 assists, Andrew Manning added 3 goals with 2 assists, and Karl Degenhart and George Zackman contributed 2 goals each. Goalie Pat Quinn had 8 saves. The Buccaneers lost to Holmdel (9-5) on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 14-2. Senior midfielder Andrew Manning was injured in the game. He was taken to the hospital, where it was determined he broke his collar bone. The Bucs will be back in action Friday at 4 p.m. when they face the Ranney School at home.

Goalie Pat Quinn had 14 saves against Monroe, including a crucial one with only seconds to go before the final horn. With the win, Red Bank Regional improves their team record to 5-2. The Buccaneers will square off against the St. Rose Purple Roses tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Edward I. Brown Athletic Complex located at 5104 West Hurley Pond Road in Farmingdale. Next home game is Wednesday, April 27 at 4 p.m. against St. John Vianney.
