Kind Burger Owner: 'We're Down, But We're Not Out'

"We've been speechless by the outpouring of help," Sea Bright business owner Anthony Cafaro said.

On the Monday before Thanksgiving, skies were overcast in Sea Bright and there was a damp, bone chilling wind. The sidewalks, crowded in summer with beachgoers, are now narrow corridors made up of the destroyed innards of the downtown's businesses. Directly across from the public beach is what's left of Kind Burger, the popular burger joint opened this summer by the Cafaro family of Rumson, with a special gluten-free menu in honor of their six-year-old daughter Olivia. Where a few weeks ago the aroma of grilled beef flowed through it's open garage-style front windows, now there is stench of sewage. Sea Bright's Kind Burger is Gluten-Free

The Ocean Avenue burger joint set to open mid-July.

Anthony Cafaro comes from a New York family of Italian restauranteurs. But when this Rumson resident decided to leave Wall Street behind, it wasn't going to be so he could open a parm house. "This area doesn't need an Italian restaurant," Cafaro told Patch last week, outside an empty storefront on Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright where the windows are papered with the smiley faced logo of his new venture, Kind Burger. He pointed out Anjelica's next door, where he just celebrated his son's christening and called the upscale eatery "fantastic." But, he said, "the working man needs a place to come and eat." Bravo for a new eatery that's not pizza and subs! I couldn't agree more with his statement, "This area doesn't need an Italian restaurant." Been saying that for years. Anthony, any chance you guys will have a whole grain bun or toast as a bread choice?   more ›
