Eatontown parcel will be on market soon
A change to the original redevelopment plan for Fort Monmouth will allow an Eatontown parcel to become a veterans community. At its May meeting, The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) board made Fort Monmouth Parcel V1 available through the request for offers to purchase (RFOTP) process. The 10-acre parcel is located along Alexander Avenue in Eatontown and is scheduled to be built into a veterans community. The community will provide permanent housing and assistance for homeless veterans. Borough will select developer to repair and operate facility for 2013
Fort Monmouth's marina parcel has been subleased to Oceanport, which will hire a company to maintain and run it this summer. The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority approved the sublease of the marina during its meeting on Wednesday night. Oceanport will solicit bids and select a company to operate the marina on a concession basis for the 2013 boating season. The company selected will also make repairs to marina. The marina's floating docks and boathouse were damaged by Hurricane Sandy last October. The marina is a 3.9-acre parcel located at Oceanport and Riverside Avenues in Oceanport. The following was posted in the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority's (FMERA) April newsletter: Due to the positive feedback and high demand associated with its inaugural community bus tour in January, (FMERA) will host its second bus tour on May 23. Members of the public will have an opportunity to visit the former military installation and learn more about the redevelopment effort. The tour will showcase key parcels of the 1,126-acre site, which spans Eatontown, Oceanport and Tinton Falls. Tours are limited to 60 members of the public and seats will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) recently issued requests for offers to purchase (RFOTP) two properties located in the Charles Wood Area of Fort Monmouth. Parcel C is 39-acre site slated for 239 homes and 107,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. The property is a former residential area that has been demolished and is bordered by Tinton Avenue, Pearl Harbor Road and Corregidor Road. A former research facility in the Tinton Falls section of Fort Monmouth will soon be on the market. The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) voted to advance the sale of Building 2705 at its meeting earlier this month. This will allow FMERA to issue a request for offers to purchase (RFOTP) for the property for developers wishing to acquire the property The 47,600-square-foot building is located in the Charles Wood Section of Fort Monmouth on Pearl Harbor Road. FMERA approved sublease of property to county last month
Monmouth County hopes to have the pool and teen center at Fort Monmouth open this spring. The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) board approved its lease of the teen center and pool from the Army, and its sublease of the property to Monmouth County last month, according to the FMERA monthly newsletter. The two buildings that make up the teen center are located in the Charles Wood section of Tinton Falls and total 22,636 square feet and sit on approximately 6.5 acres. The property includes an outdoor pool, youth center and a shower/restroom building. The facility will be managed by the Monmouth County Parks Department as a public recreational facility. Officials say track would also be used by Memorial School
Eatontown officials have expressed their desire to acquire the running track at Fort Monmouth for the borough. Councilman Dennis Connelly said the county was originally going to acquire the property, which is located off of Park Avenue, but is no longer interested. Connelly said he envisions sharing the property with Memorial School so its students could use the track and field for sports. There have been a lot of glowing press releases issued by the Fort Monmouth Economic Redevelopment Authority (FMERA) and local and state officials. Each one of these press releases trumpeted the positive short and long term impact that this move will have on the Fort’s redevelopment and to the community at large. Oceanport is in similar agreement
Eatontown has entered into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide fire services for Hurricane Sandy-displaced Fort Monmouth residents. Oceanport has also signed the same agreement to provide fire services for temporary residents on its side of the property. The New Jersey State Police will provide police services and the Monmouth Ocean Hospital Service Corporation (MONOC) MONOC will provide first aid response, Eatontown Mayor Gerald Tarantolo said.
