Oceanport May Seek To Rebuild Boro Hall Above Flood Plain
Borough Hall, the municipal court and the library were all flooded in Hurricane Sandy.
Borough Council announced Thursday that it will look into rebuilding Borough Hall outside the flood plain. "This is one of the rumors that's true," Mayor Michael Mahon said. The building which sits at a low elevation at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Monmouth Boulevard was flooded Monday in Hurricane Sandy's storm surge. It sustained signficant damage after flooding 4.5 feet in the court section and about two feet in the library. "It's kind of mind boggling to look at," he said, referring to the damage at the library. Borough staff was forced to relocate to Oceanport Hook and Ladder, then later moved to a trailer behind Borough Hall, and then into a double wide trailer on the site.
