Frontyardigans: Little Silver Cubs Get a Taste of Gardening

Front Yard Farmer Wendy Weiner showed the group of second graders cool stuff to grow in their front or backyards.

Drive too fast down Rumson Road through Little Silver and you just might miss the raised wooden beds and wire trellises that define the front of Wendy Weiner's house where she is known as the Front Yard Farmer. But the Little Silver Cub Scout Den 5 moseyed over there on Friday from the Markham Place tennis courts and were treated to a tour of the property, which included tasting some scallions plucked from a bed and watching the force of rainwater she collects in containers alongside the house shoot out an irrigation spigot. The trip was organized by moms Sheila Jurek and Wendy Munoz, who uses Weiner's expertise in her own garden.
