WaWa Donates to Sandy Relief Efforts at Latest Ocean County Store Opening

New location opened Friday on Route 70 in Lakewood

WaWa celebrated the grand opening of its newest Ocean County location Friday by making donations to local Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.  CEO Howard Stoeckel presented a $10,000 donation to the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean County and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey while marking the opening of the convenience store chain's new location on Route 70 in Lakewood. "It's remarkable how people have been bringing the community back to life and supporting one another," Stoeckel said. A tractor-trailer containing 8 tons of food and disaster relief supplies was parked alongside the store. Help Loved Ones Know You're Safe On Red Cross Website

This website allows people to tell loved ones they are safe.

Following Hurricane Sandy, it can be tough to reach all of your friends and family to let them know that you're OK. The American Red Cross has a "Safe and Well" registry that can help spread the word. You can go to the site and enter your information, and confirm that you're "safe and well." Then, friends and family can also go to the site and search for your name. Here are instructions from the Red Cross site: Register Yourself as “Safe and Well” Click on the “List Myself as Safe and Well” button to register yourself on the site. Red Cross Distributing Food in Freehold, Middletown

Monmouth County residents without electricity can receive food.

The Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross will distribute food outside 89 Center St. in Freehold Borough on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to chapter Food Distribution Manager Jen Swan. The American Red Cross will also distribute food at Middletown High School North, 63 Tindall Road, on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Food will be provided to any Monmouth County resident without power, Swan said. JCP&L reports over 53,000, including 300 in Little Silver, remain without electricity Wednesday. Hurricane Irene downed trees and power lines across the region Saturday and Sunday.
