RBR's Albert Martin to be Honored at Hoops for Horizons Event

Martin was a grad of the RCDS Horizons Student Enrichment Program

The Red Bank Regional High School senior who died suddenly in December while playing basketball will be honored next month at the annual Hoops for Horizons event, which will be renamed The Albert E. Martin, Jr. Memorial Hoops for Horizons Tournament. The 11th annual Hoops for Horizons 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held at Rumson Country Day School (RCDS) on March 8 and 9 to benefit the school's Horizons Student Enrichment Program. “We’re inviting everyone in the community to come out and play in Albert’s memory," said Paul Campanella, Rumson Country Day School's athletics director and Albert E. UPDATE: SJV Responds To Rumors of Insensitive Chant at RBR Basketball Game

RBR and SJV school officials attempt to quell rumors that some SJV students allegedly chanted "Where's Albert?" in the stands at Wednesday night's basketball game.

Saint John Vianney Principal Steven C. DiMezza said today that the school is investigating an incident that occurred Wednesday during a boy’s basketball game vs. Red Bank Regional High School in Holmdel.  "Inappropriate comments were made with regards to the loss of RBR student, Albert Martin," DiMezza said in a statement posted to the school website. "False rumors about chanting began circulating on social media sites. "Matters such as this one are taken very seriously at Saint John Vianney High School," siad DiMezza. RBR Celebrates the Brief But Bright Life of Albert Martin

Before the start of the season basketball opener the Buc community came together to retire Martin's jersey, number 34.

The Red Bank Regional community came together as one, in a sea of maroon, on Monday night to honor the life of a Buc cut tragically short. Almost every person in the student stands wore a "Buc 4 Life" shirt to honor 18-year-old Albert Martin, who died earlier this month after he collapsed on the basketball court. Martin's extended family came out for the season opener against Red Bank Catholic, where the Bucs retired Martin's number, 34. "He was phenomenal," said family member Celestine Stone of Red Bank. Stone beamed when she spoke of Martin just before the start the ceremony. "He was a beautiful soul. God takes the good first," she said. RBR to Retire Martin's Jersey Monday

Late student will be honored at season-opening boys basketball game against Red Bank Catholic

The Red Bank Regional High School community will honor the memory of late student Albert Martin at its season-opening basketball game Monday. Martin, who was a senior forward, will have his #34 jersey retired and presented to his mother, Tracy Dixon, at 6:30 p.m. Monday when RBR kicks off the season against Red Bank Catholic at the RBR gym, 101 Ridge Road, Little Silver. The Red Bank resident died at Riverview Medical Center Dec. 3 after collapsing during a basketball scrimmage against Point Pleasant Beach High School.  There's been an outpouring support at the school community for a student who senior Kadyjah Smith described as "such an amazing kid and so easy to love."  Contributions have been coming in to the Albert Martin Memorial Fund…

Funeral for Red Bank Regional's Albert Martin Set for Saturday

Donations being accepted to Memorial Fund

A viewing and funeral for late Red Bank Regional High School senior Albert Martin will be held Saturday morning at the First Presbyterian Church, 255 Harding Road. The viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon with funeral to follow, said Marianne Kligman, Red Bank Regional community information officer. The shool also has established the Albert Martin Memorial Fund to pay tribute to the senior basketball player, who died suddenly Monday after being rushed to Riverview Medical Center following a scrimmage at the Little Silver school.  Donations are being accepted through the Source foundation, a nonprofit that focuses on youth services. Albert Martin was a gregarious young man who was just beginning to reach his potential when his life was cut tragically short while playing the game he loved. Martin, 17, a Red Bank Regional High School senior, died at Riverview Medical Center Monday after collapsing during a basketball scrimmage against Point Pleasant Beach High School.  Shellshocked RBR students, coaches, administrators and board members spoke Tuesday about the loss of a young man described as a friend to all who had worked tirelessly to improve his conditioning and grades to be a better athlete and student. RBR Athlete Collapses, Dies Monday

Senior Albert Martin collapsed and died while playing basketball at the high school.

A Red Bank Regional basketball player collapsed and died after being rushed to the hospital Monday afternoon. Albert Martin, 17, of Red Bank collapsed while playing basketball on Dec. 3, according to Red Bank Regional spokesperson Marianne Kligman.  Little Silver Police and EMS responded to the high school gym around 4:24 p.m. and performed CPR on Martin, 17, who was taken to Riverview Medical Center where he died, according to Little Silver Police Chief Daniel Shaffery. The Bucs were scheduled to scrimmage Point Pleasant Beach, Kligman said. RBR coach Scott Martin (no relation) told All Shore Media that Martin played the first six minutes of the first quarter against Point Beach and was ready to re-enter the game in the second quarter …
