JEAN PUBLIC April 24, 2014 at 03:43 pm
who started the fire? forest fire service is having unannounced burns all over the state. did theyRead More set it? so many of those "presdribed burns" go out of control and then taxpayers are stuck paying the bills. one they set on Delaware river cost nj taxpayers millions of dollars. another one they set a firefighter was killed.

KKK dwindling to less than10,000 members? Not just renaming themselves the Tea Party.
Rick Langley April 24, 2014 at 03:02 pm
@Gerson Goldstein You can say God in school, just like the Klan can say what they wish. SchoolsRead More can't force God on kids. You don't seem to understand the 1st Amendment.

KKK breaks into a few homes and then comes to the rescue. An age old strategy.
Whoisleadingus?? April 24, 2014 at 04:01 pm
Before this turns into a ‘left’ versus ‘right’ debate as almost all articlesRead More on here do, I would like to suggest a few other reasons for these statistics. When I was young my mother was a single parent with 2 children. She walked to work 4 miles (Nursing Home). When she was done at that place, she walked another 3 miles to her second job (Restaurant). When finished there she walked home 5 miles to see us. She worked nearly 11 hours a day and walked 12 miles a day for us. My brother and I wanted for nothing. We didn’t have the nicest clothes or shoes, but we also didn’t have the cheapest either. We never went hungry and always had a roof over our heads. We never had a car. I forgot to mention, my mother is also from another country. I used to hear her crying through the bedroom door as she soaked her feet in warm water in a pot from soreness. I asked her why she was so upset and she told me we deserved better than this. Why do I tell you this story, because sometimes it is the will of the individual and personal responsibility for their situation. For the life of me when I drive through so called ‘poverty’ neighborhoods I notice many of them are more interested in having a nice car with big shiny rims than a decent place to live. Wrong priorities. I also cannot figure why so many people in that situation turn to drugs? Maybe if they spent that money on a different rental area instead of shooting it up, people would not be in those situations. Personal responsibility. Don’t get me wrong, I feel for the children that have no say in the matters of what their parents do and who live in poverty, but I find it hard to hear they have no money when it is wasted on shiny new cars or drugs. My mother made a choice, did she want people to think we were ‘fine’ by buying a nice car or SUV with shiny rims or buying illegal substances to stick in her body, or did she want her kids to have a fighting chance. You decide what is more important.
Brian N April 24, 2014 at 04:03 pm
Aman, back up, I am in no way questioning that single parent homes aren't a main cause of poverty.Read More My problem is when you try to blame it all on government handouts. Without those very handouts many of those impoverished children would be starving of homeless. Yes, there will always be a faction that takes advantage, but they are FAR outnumbered by people who are truly in need and searching for a job. THAT is where my comment was coming from, but thanks for rattling on for so long over the wrong argument. I just find it funny when people say federal help is what is fostering he situation. So then what is your answer? Let the kids fend for themselves? There are too many people who are truly in need to do that. And I AGREE with you that it will take a cultural shift first before you can start to change the policy. It's not a left or right problem, it's all of our problem.
Brian N April 24, 2014 at 04:05 pm
And for the record, besides my own child yes, I have fed others. This past month our church providedRead More over 100 needy families with food for Easter. I'm not bragging (you asked), and it's only a drop in the bucket, but if everyone contributed a drop it adds up.

"bg robbins" -- Yes, that "someone" was YOU -- on "April 24, 2014 at 08:42Read More am" to be exact, you dragged an "ethnic minority group" into this discussion (which has nothing to do with race), piling on as much white guilt as you could. (Unless you remove your comment, it can still be seen.) Self-pitying loser.

I don't disagree with you that we're becoming less and less a free country but it's wrong to blameRead More democrats alone. It wasn't dems alone that passed the patriot act. It hasn't been dems alone that have been re-uping it since it was passed the first time. On how bad Hillary will be as a president. Every president is bad in some ways. Reagan raised taxes more than a dozen times. Bush took us to war on two fronts with no way to pay for it. Clinton signed DOMA and DADT. Obama gave away the farm in order to get the Affordable Care Act passed. Papa Bush said that atheists shouldn't be considered Americans. Sure Hillary will be a bad president in some ways.... they are all bad in some way. I can tell you this much though, any president is going to be a worse president when the publicly stated goal of the opposition is to obstruct that president at any and all opportunities. The dems did it to Bush. The republican'ts are doing it to Obama. It's like Palestine and Israel, they'll fight to the death out of spite and habit, neither one of them knowing which one threw the first punch and not caring because winning is the only goal. What America needs are citizens that go into government for the good of the country instead of the good of their party.
Michael Hipp April 24, 2014 at 03:03 pm
Oh, one last point on your last post B. Dub. "Hillary presidency combined with a DemocraticRead More Congress." Ain't gonna happen. Republicant's have gerrymandered the states to absolute death. They have the House for the foreseeable future and they have a good chance at getting the Senate. I can't guarantee you who's going to win in 2016 but I can very well guarantee you that no one party will take executive and legislative branches, both.

this "to me" is not funny, the swat teams are used for serious issues, hostage taking,Read More etc. to have a swat team called to a home behind a video game is stupid, these swat members are trained to save lives, etc. to be called to a home behind a video game is not funny, what happens if a REAL call comes in and swat is needed there, I hope they catch the idiot that called swat and he gets what he/she deserves

@Charles Taite - As one of the commentators responding to and to whom Black Panther of PoetryRead More responded I happen to agree with you. I don't know whether Patch removed him or whether he did so himself. I for one did not flag any of his comments as offensive regardless of my personal dislike of some of the comments he made. If Patch did so shame on Patch. P.S. As much as I have issues with what he wrote he is no where close to the KKK for bigotry or racist beliefs or talk but your point is well taken.

Dickie also can't stand not seeing his name in the paper once a week, so he'll be "for" orRead More "against" something just for the sake of issuing a press release. Sending out a camera crew to interview him just enables him further. Forty years and counting. He's the poster child for Term Limits.

the only difference I see between Codey and Christie is that one is wearing an orange cone and theRead More other one is still renting them out at will - regardless, the longer Julie Herrman remains at Rutgers, the longer Rutgers's integrity is going to be under a public cloud
Clyde Z April 23, 2014 at 07:59 am
her hiring was a joke, I mean they said they did a background check: must not have used GoogleRead More search because they've listed her troubles before her hire at Rutgers. Not to mention that she "lied" on her application. I've had co-workers fired after a month, months and in another case years after their hire due to lies on their application. Hermann's lies could/should have been cought by simple 10th grade investigation
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

Gary's post is full of falsehoods.
CowDung April 24, 2014 at 12:22 pm
"Agreements or addenda" are not part of the Common Core. Again, if states are doing theirRead More own thing by adding stuff or agreeing to do something different, it isn't Common Core.

If it's on the internet it must be true? A small group of parents make up some "facts" andRead More post it on random news sites. So it must be true? I'm in favor of trusting the actual sources of the program over a blog that someone created because they are afraid of their kids getting a better education.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup!
