Apparently, some at Rutgers felt the same way as you and gave him a break and let him coach inRead More peace. As it turns out, he didn't deserve a break and he definitely does not coach in peace. It's Ok, once a girl is hurt....everyone's tune will change and they will act surprised that this could ever happen.
Hello April 18, 2013 at 10:58 pm
Give me a break. It's not like he is going to do the things he did to college boys to middle schoolRead More girls. Post REAL news and leave him be!

I don't know the guy, and as the old saying goes "I don't got a dog in this fight." but doRead More you really think that a man who has been shown to be a physically and abusive coach in two college coaching gigs can suddenly calm himself on the sidelines of an AAU basketball game? If any of you have been to any youth sporting event, especially the highly competitive traveling sports programs (baseball, basketball, soccer) you've seen this behavior from other coaches, most of them parents of a player on the team. Their conduct on the sideline, and treatment of players, referees and fans is outrageous, but parents tolerate it for a number of reasons - they don't want their kids playing time diminished, the coach is a "winner", etc. So, you're right, I haven't seen him do it at an AAU game, but I did see him coach at Rutgers and it was embarrassing. And when his "suspension" was first announced in November, my daughter (a Rutgers grad who I went to the game with) and I were not surprised. And when I heard what really was happening in practices, again, we weren't surprised. So, I read this story and hear about the the rumors, and I am not surprised. And I should be surprised that the parents tolerate this type of behavior from someone who is supposed to coach and mentor their child, but ultimately, I am not.

That's great but can he read and write? why do colleges insist on giving 'free rides' to studentsRead More who are unable to meet the school's academic requirements?
Christopher Sheldon (Editor) April 8, 2013 at 08:32 pm
Service, when I spoke to his coach he specifically told me that he is great student as well.

I find it disturbing the Coach Rice thought it was ok to treat his team this way..After the firstRead More time he put his hands on someone you think he would say to himself "WTF".. He saw nothing wrong coaching this way. Why did he think it was ok to coach this way? This coaching style was no accident. Why did it take this Video to get him fired? That's the Million Dollar Question
Fred Beshore April 4, 2013 at 01:31 am
Really Rice!? Who do you think you are?....Bob Knight?
Karen Harris April 4, 2013 at 12:45 pm
At least Bobby Knight won games.

and 5 years from now, at some bar, they'll look back on this and it will all seem funny

Judy, I agree a lot of people made some very stupid decisions, especially the parent. However, myRead More point is that the whole thing never would have happened if the runner hadn't tried to flatten the catcher. I wasn't there so I can't speak to all the stories flying around about the brawl but I do know that an umpire doesn't eject a player for "accidentally" bumping into the catcher. The umpire ejects a player for a flagrant and dangerous act of un-sportsman like conduct. Hopefully the player will understand that his act was the flash point for everything that happened afterward. FYI all of my kids went to RBR and I think it is an exceptional school. It grieves me to see it suffer such bad press due to the actions of a few.
Sally April 30, 2013 at 09:07 pm
I hope not.

The perpetrators of the Massachusetts crime against humanity should be punished with the maximumRead More penalty. Among the top suspects are Nazi and Neo-Confederate groups. The Southern Poverty Law Center has been tracking these groups for years. One of the Nazi racist skinhead groups is the Aryan Terror Brigade. They are organized in a number of states, among them Massachusetts and here in New Jersey. The Aryan Terror Brigade should be closely watched. If you know anything about them, contact your local law enforcement agency.

to beachchairgirl, Abe and Megan.... Human brain cannot make sense out of an irrational situationRead More such as this .The thanking of God will create a support that will strengthen the reserve.. and allow the brain to function in defense of that which it cannot explain..The mind of man is certainly opposed to any irrational attack...thus the resolve that the FAITHFUL have allows the body to continue....THANK GOD!

Someone should make him take the "Rutgers Safety Course" that pretty much any youth sportsRead More coach today has to take. The videos they use and show you there as examples of what not to do as a youth coach are mild compared to his style of coaching. Why do the rest of us volunteer coaches have to take these courses if guys Luke him are allowed to participate? Plenty of good coaches on ALL different levels get alot of positive results/wins without acting like an idiot. Sounds like he needs to be drug tested. Something not right with him bringing this to youth sports too.
Bob Banta April 17, 2013 at 11:52 pm
JD This 12 yr old girls AAU is a high level competition team? Really??? No wonder so many kids todayRead More are getting burned out and don't even want to play "their sport" at the college level. I guess he's getting them ready for Rutgers.. Oh that's right... they don't approve of his methods anymore.
KS April 18, 2013 at 03:29 pm
Mr. Banta, I do not appreciate you using the Mike Rice coaching controversy as an opportunity toRead More malign Rutgers University in your statement, "I guess he's getting them ready for Rutgers."

Matt, If you want to go way back in baseball history, I'd suggest that you look at the WrightRead More brothers-George and Harry. Both of them are in the Hall of Fame.

JoAnn Angelucci May 9, 2013 at 04:54 pm
Why doesn't the racetrack also get a dynamite chef and serve all year round?
