So let's see, another 300 units, about 600 cars. How about they force the developers to improve theRead More roads all the way from Pier Village to the Garden State Parkway? Maybe another two lanes in each direction. I think it's all overkill with building and no road improvements to go along with what is planned.
Fred M June 8, 2013 at 07:34 am
You think this developer should pay to improve hwy 36 for the general public? Interesting, I don'tRead More go to pier village and you think he should improve traffic flow for everyone regardless? Your looking for a new designated lane on hwy 36 for only drivers going to Pier Village?
Steve June 8, 2013 at 12:59 pm
yes, that's how it's done in so many States. You want to build then you have to pay to improve theRead More roads coming into that development. Multiply all the cars and other vehicles heading into all of Pier Village. No Pier Village then a lot of less traffic on Route 36. Sorry no other way to get there on a main road from the Parkway

Having grown up in New Jersey and recalling many happy days spent in Seaside Heights, I wasRead More delighted to see the opening of the boardwalk on the Today Show. I was not thrilled, however, to see that idiot from the Today Show releasing an oversized beachball into the ocean while she yelled "free Willie." "kill Willie" would have been more appropriate for what she in her imbecile joy was doing to further endanger the sea life and pollute the ocean! The Today Show continues to spiral down to idiocy.

I wish them luck in their new location, and would love to try the menu. My daughters and I have allRead More been diagnosed with Celiac disease, so we know the problems that go along with eating out. I hope that there will be dedicated grill, utensils and areas to prevent gluten contamination. Good luck!!!!!

Stop Fema Now is holding a rally at 2 p.m. this Saturday at the Surf Club in Ortley Beach, one ofRead More the towns hit hardest by Sandy. The rally is scheduled to last about an hour. George Kasimos, founder of the grassroots group, said everyone is invited. The Surf Club is at 1900 Ocean Ave.
shorefriend May 2, 2013 at 11:33 am
ahhhhh......the Surf Club was at 1900 Ocean ave?

These photos are faked. I do not see any type of caffeine on the tables.

LSNative, the list above comes from Yelp, which is not a survey. I simply posted the 10 highestRead More rated restaurants in Little Silver from their site.
LSNative April 29, 2013 at 11:54 am
That was tongue in cheek, Chris
Christopher Sheldon (Editor) April 29, 2013 at 11:56 am
LSNative, I had no idea. Just wanted to make sure you and everybody else knew these rankings wereRead More not biased and were not my own opinion.

What a silly debate, honestly. Traffic? Are you serious? Traffic? Every other alternative forRead More the land would bring FAR more traffic. Let the man have his winery. All this time and money wasted preventing the inevitable, let's at least get some cachet out of the deal. We - the entire town - should be so lucky that traffic is so increased that roads would have to be expanded. Except, of course, such improvements would likely take years - if the current project on Seven Bridges is any measure... And please, can we stop with this "LS is a dry town" nonsense? It is, except when it isn't. Bottle Shop, hello?? Let the man sell his wine.

Anthony, This is not a scam. Richard DeBlasi has 5 acres of grapes growing which entitles him to aRead More farmland exemption under state law. Even with that, he still pays over $40k a year in property taxes. Furthermore, this is a decent-size operation - five acres of grapes can produce up to 15,000 bottles of wine per year. A winery will increase the value of surrounding properties, not decrease it. While you might prefer him to get a retail liquor license, and open a shop in the business districts, that's not how wineries work. They get license from the state ($1,000 per year), and primarily sell from the winery. Little Silver has made a serious mistake here. The Agriculture Board is made up of 5 members, all of whom are farmers. They will be in favor of DeBlasi's plans, and then he will be totally exempt from Little Silver's zoning and planning authority.

Little Silver has made a serious mistake here. DeBlasi's vineyard meets all the legal requirementsRead More for an active farm. The Monmouth County Agriculture Board is made up of 5 members, all of whom are farmers. They will be in favor of DeBlasi's plans, and then he will be totally exempt from Little Silver's zoning and planning authority.

This story is absolute Proof as to why our State/County/Local Government should NOT be involved withRead More adding more real estate to the overly saturated commercial real estate market by trying to redevelop Fort Monmouth for commercial usage. Government is going into competition with private industry that pays income and real estate tax on their commercial real estate and that is NEVER a good idea.

Is Kara Raymon the former Kara Rekeda who's Mom is Dottie Rekeda? Kara is a fantastic dancer and wasRead More great fun at Body Rock Aerobics Studio and Rekeda Dance Arts in the 80s and 90s!

So I guess it's no longer going to be considered a race track?
JoAnn Angelucci May 9, 2013 at 04:54 pm
Why doesn't the racetrack also get a dynamite chef and serve all year round?

"Will the retention of this employer really have any impact on businesses from other statesRead More coming here?" Probably more than Irace and the Mayor acting like petulant children in the press every time the subject of Ft Monmouth comes up will, since probably the last thing anyone wishing to invest in their future would want anything to do with the toxic environment this windmill tilting is creating. Still have yet to read a single syllable of anything Oceanport's power structure has tried or planned to attract dime one of any prospective business to this whole process of replacing the jobs lost due to the idiocy of the BRAC in the first place.

Why are the taxpayers paying anything? Isn't this private business? Why are we subsidizing anyRead More private business- EVER???? If a business wants to move on it's own and has the money to do it - it should do it. Why is the government involved at any level? The government should not be controlling the business, subsidizing the business or getting in the way of the business. Businesses should not be defined as Employers- they are started to create something that fills a need or a want and the employment of anyone other than the owners is a secondary result. Businesses should not be "owned" by the taxpayers or governments at any level. This is the problem with the entire country with states like NJ leading the way. Government growing wildly with our tax dollars to control our lives. We are paying the government at every level to regulate us to death. It's time to move.
Judy February 6, 2013 at 04:03 pm
Thank you very much Joe Irace for putting all the information out there that is very important forRead More the Oceanport residents to know. All this "behind the scenes" wheeling and dealing is exactly why little towns like Oceanport suffer with high taxes, old schools, inadaquate draining in flood areas. I agree with Maureen-how do we as taxpayers get involved with private businesses in the first place?
Itchy Foot Moe February 7, 2013 at 12:33 pm
Few "facts" you conveniently left out there councilman, 1. This privately owned companyRead More just spent ~16MILLION of it's own money to buy the land it's moving to, along with hiring in a time of suck and the stock going up over the last few years, I can see how you can be a negative nancy here.. 2. This company is merely a RENTER in the current building it occupies, meaning how much in property taxes will be lost? ZERO (Unless you cave and give your own sweetheart deal to the owner) 3. Aside from complaining about every fort deal (which btw, looks real attractive and mature for any company even thinking about moving to the fort in the future) , what exactly has Oceanport done to attract new businesses into the fort on it's own?

Michelle, they are absolutely delicious! Thanks for the recipe. Added some chopped walnuts to theRead More batter(I add nuts to everything!) and put a few choc chips on top (of a few of the muffins) before sprinkling the crumb topping on--makes for a yummy dessert with the banana/choc combo. Also had to bake them about 24 minutes--so a bit longer than the 18. They will not last long in this house!

Thanks, I always seem to have a couple of over-ripe bananas left over. Also, if you don't have timeRead More immediately to use your over-ripe bananas, just peel them, put them in a small Ziploc bag, freeze them and when you're ready to bake, just defrost for an hour or so and use. They actually make the final product moister and a bit sweeter without adding extra sugar. I will try these though...they look delicous.
Grafix Avenger January 31, 2013 at 04:57 pm
Sounds yum. Will try. As for banana bread, here is my all-time favorite recipe- it uses 6 bananasRead More and is incredibly moist. We add a handful of slivered almonds and semi-sweet chocolate chips to the batter before baking. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/banana-banana-bread/

Your recipe sounds wonderful. I can't wait to try it. Do you have a brand of tahini that youRead More particularly like?
