Updated: Little Silver Teens Take the Plunge for Special Olympics [PHOTOS]

Punishing winds and chilly temperatures didn't keep a bus load of Little Silver residents, including lots of kids, from jumping in the ocean Saturday to help raise money for the Special Olympics.

When my daughter Maddie told me she had signed up to take part in the Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge, which took place on Saturday in Seaside Heights, I thought she had for a moment forgotten who she was. She's more of a cat, like me, in that we enjoy our creature comforts and keep water exposure down to hygienic purposes.

So when I received her text on Saturday following the plunge that it had been a "life changing experience," I knew it must have been something.

Maddie rode along with the Little Silver Crocs, who, according to the plunge's Web site, were the top fundraisers for Saturday's event, bringing in $64,073. The Crocs, one of mens softball teams, met for an early-morning breakfast and then hopped on a bus down to Seaside Heights to run into the freezing winter ocean.
