A Remembrance: Running for Cole Porter

A run in honor of the triathlete and Shrewsbury fireman is scheduled for Sunday.

New Jersey Marathon runners this weekend are aiming to create a pink — rather than characteristic green — wave of remembrance at the oceanfront in Long Branch.

The pink tide of love and remembrance is all in the name of triathlete Cole Porter, the pink-loving Shrewsbury firefighter who died on Oct. 2 after succumbing to injuries he sustained in the Tour de Fair Haven race at the end of September.

Dubbed the Tribute for Cole Training Run, the special event is slated for 8 a.m. Sunday morning at  Pier Village, organizers announced on the PorterHouse Support Group Facebook page dedicated to Porter.

All are welcome. Participants are to meet at the Sneaker Factory. Whether you're running in training for future runs or plan to show up purely for support, there will be five- and 10-mile running course loops with fluid stations where free water, gatorade and gels will be available, courtesy of the NJ Marathon.

"Let's keep Cole's Light Shining!" said friend Jamie Thomas in a post on the PorterHouse page. "GET YOUR PINK ON! We will be accepting donations for the Faye and Lily Education Fund and there should be Cole: Love Saves The Day shirts for sale ... Let's make Long Branch the PinkWave!"
