The threat of lightning storms Saturday evening has prompted Oceanport's Parks and Recreation Committee to postpone the until Sunday, Sept. 9.

According to an e-mail from Mike Minervini, chairman of the committee, "Unfortunately, it appears that the weather pattern for this evening has not changed as we had hoped. As a result of the impending lightning storms for tonight, the Summer's End Festival for this evening has been postponed and will now be held TOMORROW, Sunday, September, 9, 2012."

Festivities will kick off at 3 p.m. with the horseshoe and corn hole tournament and the festival will run from 5-9 p.m.

Because of the date change, some of the originally planned activities -- specifically the  climbing rock wall, volleyball tournament, and hot air balloon -- have been canceled. The band Garden State Radio will perform on Sunday.

Minervini remained enthusiastic about Sunday's weather prospects for the 36th year of the annual borough event. "The weather for tomorrow looks spectacular! We’ll see you all then!"
