Over $330 Million Wagered at Monmouth in 2011

Cibelli first female to win trainer title, Trujillo top jockey, Rumson's George and Lori Hall finish as most victorious owners.

sported an impressive $333,375,086 in total wagers on its live races this season, with $34,860,928 of that number wagered on-track in Oceanport.

“Those are impressive figures that show the continued strength of Monmouth Park in the racing industry,” said Dennis Robinson, President and CEO of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority.  “With last year’s Elite Meet an anomaly, it’s only fair to compare these numbers to the 2009 season.  When doing so, Monmouth showed significant gains across the board.”

With 71 days of live racing in 2011, which concluded on Sunday, Nov. 6, Monmouth’s average on-track handle came in at $490,999, a 19.9% gain over the $409,384 wagered on average during the 93-day 2009 race meet.  Total average handle jumped 49.1%, with $4,695,424 wagered this season versus $3,148,339 in 2009.  On-track attendance also showed a solid gain with the 2011 average of 7,574 nine percent more than 6,949 two years ago.

In 2010, with a $30 million purse supplement in its coffers, Monmouth boasted the largest purses in the nation and enjoyed a record-breaking season.  That year saw average on-track handle of $621,886, average total handle of $6,723,225 and average attendance of 8,676 over the course of 71 live race days.

Taking home top honors at the 2011 meet were jockey Elvis Trujillo, who booted home 126 winners; owners George & Lori Hall with 18 trips to the winner’s circle; and Jane Cibelli, who became the first female to win the Monmouth Park training title after sending out 32 winners over the 71 days.
