Monmouth Park Barn Notes: Thursday, Oct. 27

Alexander 'Don'ning a pair for Saturday's Jersey Juvenile.

Trainer Bruce Alexander will saddle a pair of 2-year-old Don’s in Saturday’s divisions of the Jersey Juvenile Stakes for state-breds at .

Don Six’s Number, out of the mare Lu Lu’s Number, will break from the rail in the Jersey Juvenile’s filly division while One for Don, from the mare Twirly Girly, will go to post in the colt’s division.  Both runners are sired by Don Six, winner of the 2005 Longfellow Stakes at Monmouth Park.

The Jersey Juvenile filly division was carded as Saturday’s third race and will feature Don Six’s Number breaking from the rail off just six days rest.

“Obviously, it’s not an ideal situation, but I’m comfortable running her in this spot,” Alexander said.  “She was a little disruptive in the gate last time which caused her not to be able to get to the early lead.  From the rail this time, I would expect her to go straight to the front.  That’s how she wants to run.  That’s how her daddy ran and that’s how her momma ran.”

Don Six’s Number’s fourth-place finish against open first-level allowance foes last out was her first defeat in three starts.  The gray/roan filly broke her maiden at first asking back in September before taking a starter-allowance event a month later.

In Saturday’s eighth race, Patricia Generazio’s One for Don will look for his first-career victory against a field of six other New Jersey-bred sprinters.

The colt will yet again have the services of leading rider Elvis Trujillo, who has been aboard for all five of One for Don’s previous starts.

“Other than Tony Wilson’s horse [Deliburnsky], the other horses in there have only beat him marginally,” Alexander said.  “I think Tony’s horse will be tough, but we should fit with the rest.”
