Too Hot to Trot: Heat Postpones Friday Meet at Monmouth Park

Friday's card will be run on Monday, July 25

With the National Weather Service forecasting heat index values as high as 105, officials at have decided to play it safe, rescheduling Friday's live racing program for Monday, July 25.

“Our main concern is for the safety of our horses and jockeys,” said Robert Kulina, vice president and general manager of Monmouth Park.  “With temperatures expected to reach 100 degrees combined with high humidity, we had no choice but to reschedule the program to Monday.”

Monday will be the new Friday, as the card is not being redrawn, Friday's races are merely going to be run on Monday.

Live racing is set to resume on Saturday, July 23, with 12 races on the program.

Monmouth will be still be open for simulcasting from around the country Friday, including the opening day of upstate New York's Saratoga Race Course with a 1 p.m. post time for the first race there.
