Bucs Fall To Lancers, Eagles in Tight Contests

Tournament dreams were cut short for the Bucs in 2011, as they narrowly lost a 3-2 game to St. John Vianney for Shore Conference and a 5-3 game to Middletown South in states.

UPDATE 6:51 p.m. -- Red Bank 3, Middletown South 5. Final. Manley tweets 5-3 final, Lerner tweets that Middletown South's Howie Brey K'ed the Bucs to lock it up for the Eagles.

UPDATE 6:43 p.m. -- Red Bank 3, Middletown South 5. Bottom 9. Manley and Lerner report Howie Brey RBI triple gives Eagles 4-3 lead, Nick Mariniello adds RBI single to make it 5-3. Bucs have another half inning to answer.

UPDATE 6:21 p.m. -- Red Bank 3, Middletown South 3. Top 9. Manley and Lerner report Adam Harris singles to left, but Middletown South's Stefan Poggioli throws out the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

UPDATE 5:35 p.m. -- Red Bank 3, Middletown South 3. Top 6. Manley tweets Middletown South's Mangarelli throws out a runner at the plate to end the fifth.

UPDATE 5:19 p.m. -- Red Bank 3, Middletown South 3. Bottom 4. Lerner tweets Joe Jacques coming in to relieve Jack Fowler on the mound.

UPDATE 5:07 p.m. -- Matt Manley of All Shore Media tweets that Red Bank's Jose Rodriguez has hit an RBI single to tie the game 3-3.

The no. 8 Bucs are trailing the no. 9 Middletown South Eagles 3-2 in the bottom of the third on the diamond in Little Silver as I write this, as tweeted by NJ.com's Gregg Lerner at 4:56 p.m.

Today's game is round 1 of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association's Central Jersey Group III tournament. The winner will face either Wall or Neptune, depending on the winner of that matchup, which was scheduled for today but postponed until Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

The Bucs come off a tough 3-2 loss to St. John Vianney in the Shore Conference tournament last Thursday, highlights of which can be seen in the accompanying video.
