RBR's Mandy Galante Awarded AFA State Teacher of the Year

Teacher led team of Academy of Information Technology students to national championship at Air Force's CyberPatriot III cyberdefense competition.

On August 6th, Amanda Galante, teacher of technology at , was awarded the Air Force Association's State and Chapter 192 Teacher of the Year awards at McGuire Joint Base, NJ, next to the C-17 Globemaster III aircraft named the Spirit of New Jersey. Brig. Gen James Young, USAF, ret., of Howell, NJ, a former McGuire Base Commander, and Eric Taylor, AFA NorthEast Region President, presented the awards which amounted to $1,000.00, certificates, a jacket, and other items.

The awards were made in recognition of Shown standing with her are three of the six members on the winning Team Mantrap. Left to right are seniors Christopher Barry, with interest in computer cyber security at Stevens Institute of Technology, Colin Mahns with interest in networking/cybersecurity, and John Kelleher with interest in pursuing a Masters in Information Security. Other members of the team included seniors Adam Cotenoff and Josh Eddy and junior Jared Katzman.

CyberPatriot is a national high school cyber (computer network security) defense competition modeled after the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. To see the entire winning team, see: http://www.uscyberpatriot.org/CP4/default.aspx .

This years competition, CyberPatriot IV, can enroll up to 1250 high school teams which consists of a teacher/coach, two to five students, and up to five alternates. The enrollment deadline is Oct 8th with competition dates scheduled for Oct 28th, Dec 16th, and Jan 27th. The final in-person all paid competition will be held at the AFAs CyberFutures Conference, at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, National Harbor, Md., March 22, 2012.
