Update: RBR Commemoration of 31-0 Bucs Team Postponed to Feb. 15
The 1982-83 Boys Basketball team, which made history with a 31-0 season, will be honored at an upcoming Bucs game.
Update, 2/8: Due to the threat of inclement weather, the Feb. 9 RBR game against Shore Regional is canceled, as is the commemoration of the 1982-83 31-0 Bucs team.
RBR has rescheduled the commemoration for 6 p.m. Feb. 15.

It was a season to remember. It was perfect. For basketball, anyway.
The Red Bank Regional boys basketball team owned the 1982-83 season, finishing with a 31-0 record and captivating the hearts and imaginations of sports fans from all over the area.

“I was a student at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School at the time," RBR’s current athletic director Del Dal Pra recalled. “And every weekend my friends and I would go down the road and root the RBR Buccaneers to another victory. To this day, everyone with Jersey Shore sports history recalls that team.”
That dream team will be recognized at an upcoming Bucs basketball game, which will bring together those players that captured the hearts of fans 30 years ago.
The ceremony will be held prior to the Bucs' Feb. 9 home game at 6 p.m. against Shore Regional.
Among the players expected to return is Dan Stubbs, the RBR guard who went on to play football at the University of Miami, was admitted to their Sports Hall of Fame and enjoyed a ten-year pro-football career. He earned two Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers and went to the play-offs with the Miami Dolphins.
Other players expected to attend include George Hall, the guard who scored over 1000 points in high school, made All-State and played basketball at Franklin Pierce College. Another All-State player, Barry Phoenix played college basketball at the University of New Haven. Other 31&0 team starters included Russell Perry, Edwin Perez, George Simms and Edgar Boynton. All have been contacted and most hope to make the event.
Nick Pizzulli, who coached the 31-0 team, said, “Those kids came to me in their senior year and told me they weren’t going to lose again. They were on a mission. In the beginning we were winning games by 20 or 30 points. Of course, it got tighter as we rose through the championships.
"But it captivated the entire area. Buses of fans accompanied the team to the state championship in the Meadowlands. They were very determined and confident,” Pizzulli said.
