PHOTOS: Oceanport Fourth Grade Visits Historic Allaire Village

Pre-Frankenstorm the weather was perfect for a stroll through the woods.

Bog ore, slag, flux and blast - all cool words now in your fourth grader's vocab thanks to last month's field trip to Historic Allaire Village.

The Wolf Hillers got a chance to see a blacksmith up close and at work in his shop, a carpenter crafting a mold and experience first hand the "discipline of inconvenience" at the hand of their school master. Though you may have only heard about the gift shop.

Patch got a chance to take part as a chaperone and we were personally fascinated by the whole bog ore thing.
