Markham Warriors Finish Run with Perfect Season

The Little Silver boys basketball team wound up its second undefeated regular season this weekend.

The Boy’s Basketball team won the Run for the Roses Tournament held at St. Rose High School on Saturday, defeating Brielle by a score of 46 to 38. With this win, the boys ended their season a perfect 24 – 0, Coach Don Nolan’s second undefeated regular season and first Run for the Roses Tournament Championship.

Markham came out strong, putting up 18 points in the first quarter, including 5 three-pointers, and held the lead the rest of the game. John Salcedo put up 21 points, Michael Colao and Mike Rice each scored 5 points, Liam Smith had 4 points, and Matthew Reardon put up 11 points. Also, Michael Colao was named a member of the All-Tournament Team, while John Salcedo was named Tournament MVP.

A large crowd of Warrior faithful, includingresidents and Markham Place teachers, came out yesterday to watch the team end their season securing a spot in the annals of Markham Place History as the only Boy’s Basketball team to go 24 – 0.

After the game, my younger brother, Matthew Reardon, was shooting baskets outside when he said that the team’s motto for the year was this John Wooden quote: “It’s amazing what can be accomplished if no one cares who gets the credit.” I think that says it all.
