A meeting for parents of students in several local school districts, including Little Silver, has been scheduled to address a recent spike in heroin deaths.

The meeting will be held at the auditorium of the Rumson-Fair Haven High School on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m., Little Silver School District Superintendent Carolyn Kossack said in a recent letter to parents.

The Little Silver School District is jointly sponsoring the meeting with Rumson-Fair Haven High School, Red Bank Regional High School and the Fair Haven and Shrewsbury Elementary School districts.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni will speak about a recent spike in heroin deaths in the Monmouth County area.

"Based on the prosecutor’s presentation at my recent county meeting, this is a local problem," Kossack said. "We cannot say, 'Not in Little Silver.'"

"The prosecutor has indicated that this is not just a high school issue, and districts such as ours are very much at risk," Kossack continued. "Students age 12 and up are using heroin."
