Little Silver School Principals Say Dogs Should Not Be On School Grounds

Recent dog bite near school prompts administration to reinforce policy.

By Christopher Sheldon

Point Road School Principal Pamela Albert Devine and Markham Place Principal Dennis Morolda said in a letter to parents that their schools are strictly enforcing a policy that does not allow dogs onto school grounds.

"The policy, adopted in October 2009, is not new," the letter states. "However, in light of a recent dog bite near school property, we need to ensure that we are being prudent in adhering to this policy."

The policy states that a pet owner who brings or permits their animal on school grounds is trespassing.

"Violation of this stipulation subjects the Board of Education to liability issues and also exposes our students and staff to allergy and other health-related issues," the letter states. "We are, therefore, requesting that you leave your pets at home or in your car when dropping off/picking up your children at school."

The principals say “No Pets Allowed” signs will be posted as soon as they are available to remind parents of the policy.
