Markham Place eighth graders shadowed local government officials in an effort to learn more about how local government works.

eighth grade students took part in Student Government Day on May 11.  Each student was paired with a local government official and spent the day shadowing that person through their role, all in the hope of learning more about the inner workings of local government.

The day included a mock board of education meeting which was guided by Little Silver Superintendent Dr. Carolyn Kossack. The students took on roles as diverse as police chief, mayor, public works department workers, librarians and planning board members. The students then gathered at for a mock council meeting.  Each acting chairperson gave a short presentation of the decisions that they were required to make and their roles within Little Silver.
