Red Bank RiverCenter Delivers Boost Toward Lighting RBR’s Athletic Fields

Red Bank RiverCenter presented the RBR Athletic Foundation with a check for $16,000 towards their goal of lighting the school district's football and athletic field.

"It isn’t just about lighting our fields, but bringing our community together,” Red Bank Regional (RBR) Athletic Director Del DalPra explained upon gratefully receiving a check for $16,000 from Red Bank RiverCenter on behalf of the RBR Athletic Foundation.

The Let There Be Lights Campaign was established last year to fundraise for a lighted football/athletic field which the RBR Athletic Foundation explains would not only allow the district’s students to play ballgames at night, but to increase practice time and improve athletic performance. The lights would also allow the district to sponsor athletic tournaments, which would bring additional funding to the athletic program as well as promote community spirit.

The check presented by Leo Zeik, the Red Bank RiverCenter Board Chair, represents the proceeds raised at the organization’s springtime International Flavour Festival, which featured the international culinary offerings of 25 Red Bank restaurants, vendors and continuous live entertainment.

Nancy Adams, RiverCenter Executive Director comments, “Each year, we donate a portion of the proceeds to a local charity or non-profit group. We were delighted this year to benefit our own high school community.”

The event operated with 120 volunteers of which 90 were RBR students, parents, staff and coaches as coordinated by the RBR Athletic Foundation president Cathy Reardon.

While the $16,000 gives the mission a big, and much appreciated boost, it still has a way to go with $50,000 raised of an estimated $300,000 to $400,000 goal.  The foundation has several events in the planning stage for the 2012-2013 school year.

Mrs. Reardon states, “We would love to see lights up at RBR by September 2013, and as a group we will continue to work hard until that happens.”
