RBR Student Lands Starring Role in Phoenix Production of 'The Wizard of Oz'

RBR VPA student Madelyn (Maddie) Monaghan landed the starring role as Dorothy in the Phoenix Production of The Wizard of Oz playing in April and May.

Little Silver resident and (RBR) Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) student Madelyn (Maddie) Monaghan landed the starring role as Dorothy in the Phoenix Production of The Wizard of Oz playing in April and May.  The  production runs from Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 29 at the Count Basie in Red Bank and on Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6, at the Strand Center for the Arts in Lakewood. Skipping down the yellow brick road with her will be fellow RBR drama students and Little Silver residents Dan Rosen and Meg Loftus who will appear in the production’s ensemble cast. Monaghan is a junior vocal major in the RBR VPA where she played Marie Leroux in Mark Twain’s Is He Dead and Lady Larken in Once Upon a Mattress. The latter performance garnered her a “Basie” for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical, a coveted award for high school student performances. She also starred as Belle in New Jersey Repertory Theater’s production of Beauty and the Beast. Monaghan is a member of the All-Shore Chorus and the RBR Concert and Chamber ensemble. She was a finalist in the New Jersey Music Educators Association’s Opera Festival. She will be playing Monica in Menotti’s opera, the Medium on May 1 and May 2 at RBR.

Dan Rosen, an RBR VPA senior drama major, has portrayed Tranio in Taming of the Shrew at the Holmdel Theatre community theatre, and appeared in Phoenix Productions of Miss Saigon, Cinderella and Hairspray., He has played Nick
Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Orlando in As You Like It, Chicago in Is He Dead, The King in Cinderella and Friar Lawrence in Romeo & Juliet in RBR Theatre Company productions. Dan was a metro-scholar in the Two River Theatre Company and and participated in the Two River Theatre Playback program. Rosen will be attending a BFA Conservatory Acting program next fall.

Meg Loftus, a junior, is also an RBR VPA drama major. She has appeared in SOAR productions The Secret Garden as well as RBR Theatre productions of Cinderella and Once Upon a Mattress. Loftus sings with the Concordia Youth Opera Choir and has performed at Carnegie Hall and toured with the group in Germany, Austria,
France and the Czech Republic.
