Sandy Hook's Next 20 Years: Read Proposals, Make Comments

Gateway National Recreation Area extends public comment period to Oct. 22.

Under various proposals by the National Park Service, Historic Fort Hancock buildings could be reused at lodging, restaurants, conference spaces and offices. Summertime beach visitors could take weekday ferry service to Sandy Hook. A shuttle service could connect the Highlands, and bike rentals would be available throughout the park.

Read about these ideas and more in summary form in the Gateway National Recreation Area 2013 newsletter. Or access the General Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement document in its entirety here.  Copies are also available on compact disk by calling 718-354-4568.

The public is invited to share comments with the National Park Service until Tuesday, October 22.

Comments can be submitted directly on this National Park Service website or mailed to Superintendent, Gateway National Recreation Area, 210 New York Avenue, Staten Island, NY, 10305..
