Shore Regional Students Pick Senator Kyrillos' Brain

State senator tells students about government, answers questions.

Senator Joseph Kyrillos (R-13) stopped by on Monday morning and was asked about recent governmental issues by inquisitive senior students.

The students wanted to know Kyrillos' stance on several current events including the protestors on Wall Street in New York City and Gov. Chris Christie's .

Senior Christina Kapalko asked Kyrillos if he thought Christie would change his mind about running for office. Kyrillos said he is confident Christie will not run, but said he felt he would have made a good candidate.

"I think it's great for the state that we think so highly of our governor," Kyrillos said.

Senior Aothan Young asked him if he supported the Wall Street protestors and Kyrillos said although he "does not have his arms around it," that the protestors have a right to do what they are doing.

"I'm not surprised that people are concerned and frustrated over what is going on right now," Kyrillos said.

Kiralee Knotts asked the senator what he thought of the new anti-bullying law that was passed earlier this year, and Kyrillos said he fully supports it.

"I hope the students, teachers and administrators are given the tools they need to make a happy experience for everybody," Kyrillos said.

Kyrillos also spoke about the importance of political awareness among young people and described the structure of government and the process a bill goes through to become law.
