The resignation of William Johnson has created a hole on the Oceanport Council that will soon be filled.

Johnson resigned on Nov. 1 because he took a job with Monmouth County that would no longer allow him to serve on the council.

A special meeting of the Oceanport Council will be held on Monday, Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Maple Place School to name Johnson's successor.

The Oceanport Republican Municipal Committee submitted the names of three potential replacements to the borough within 15 days of Johnson's resignation. The council has 30 days from his resignation to pick one of the three candidates.

The candidates are Christopher Paglia, John A. Patti and Patricia Cooper. The Oceanport Council will select one of the three candidates at the upcoming special meeting to immediately take Johnson's spot on the dais.

The replacement will sit in Johnson's seat until the end of 2014, but a new candidate will have to run in next year's election to fill out the remainder of the term which expires on Dec. 31, 2016.
