Oceanport's Fort Monmouth Visitors Center To House Sandy Recovery Employees

FMERA board approves lease with New Jersey Department of Community Affairs

By Christopher Sheldon

The former Visitor Control Center in the Oceanport section of Fort Monmouth is the new home to a group of employees from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) board approved the lease of the center, which is a 1,800 square-foot trailer, to the DCA last week for $1.

Eight employees from the DCA will set up shop in the trailer to help administer the reNer Jersey Stronger Housing grant programs and  "provide technical assistance to municipalities affected by Superstorm Sandy," according to the resolution passed by the board.

The grants are designed to encourage homeowners to resettle in their primary residences and help them reconstruct, rehabilitate, elevate and mitigate their homes.

DCA's lease is good for one year but can be extended six months.
