Oceanport Offers Plan to Save Monmouth Park

Letter from Mayor Mahon to Gov. Christie offers to "provide a vehicle for transition to a new model of sustainability."

In a bid to protect the future of Oceanport's $1.8 million taxpayer, , in light of , Mayor Michael Mahon and the Monmouth Park Task Force have offered the Borough's assistance.

"The Borough extends our resources and commitment to resolve the current differences in an atmosphere of trust," said Mahon in a letter sent to Christie Wednesday. "We further offer to participate in the negotiations and provide a vehicle for transition to a new model of sustainability. I welcome the opportunity to discuss this specific option in further detail with your team."

Senior advisers to the Christie administration are in discussion with Oceanport officials about one possible vehicle for transition, establishing a borough redevelopment authority, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Mahon told NJ.com that Oceanport would take over as a temporary landlord until a new operator can be found, but the Borough had no interest in assuming that role on a long-term basis.
