Oceanport Must Now Pay For Municipal Court Space

Shrewsbury had been allowing Oceanport to use its court since Hurricane Sandy.

Oceanport's borough hall courtroom was severely flooded by Hurricane Sandy, and since that time, Shrewsbury has been allowing the borough to use its courtroom.

However, Oceanport will now have pay to use the court, nearly one year after Hurricane Sandy.

"They've been very gracious, up until this point they haven't really charged us," Borough Administrator Philip Huhn said.

Huhn said it will cost Oceanport $1,500 per month to use the courtroom.

Mayor Michael Mahon said he felt the cost was minimal and that the borough was grateful to Shrewsbury for allowing it to use the court.

The council later unanimously passed a resolution for the borough to use the Shrewsbury courtroom for $1,500 per month.

If Sea Bright, which also uses Shrewsbury's courtroom space, were to leave the monthly rate could be negotiated down to $1,000, Huhn said.
