The Oceanport Library will reopen for the first time since Hurricane Sandy on July 1, the Monmouth County Library recently announced.

The library, which is located in Oceanport Borough Hall off Myrtle Avenue, was flooded by Hurricane Sandy in October.

The library now has a new circulation desk, shelving and has been cleaned and repainted.

The Monmouth County Library received an insurance settlement of $283,704 to restore the collection of library materials at the Oceanport Branch in March. The funds were used to order new books, periodicals, DVDs, and CDs to replace those lost in the storm.

Close to 18,000 library items were either flooded or contaminated and had to be disposed because of the storm.

The branch will begin its usual hours on July 1 and will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It will also be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Library patrons will be able to check out books and DVDS and pick up their holds at the refurbished library. Children’s story times will also resume the week of July 1.
