Oceanport Sets Requirements, Fees For Special Event Permits

By Christopher Sheldon

The Oceanport Council adopted an ordinance during its July 18 meeting that will require any event organizer who is looking to close a borough road or requires traffic control to first obtain a special events permit.

Organizers of activities such as sporting events, concerts, sales and other events where road closures or traffic control is needed will have to apply for the permit, the ordinance states.

The Oceanport Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau will make the determination of whether or not traffic control or road closures are needed as well as the number of roads and methods of closure.

The permit has to be requested through the clerk's office at least 30 days before the event. The application will then be reviewed by the traffic bureau and the Oceanport Council.

If it is approved by both entities, it will go back to the applicant with any changes that may need to be reviewed.

The applicant is also responsible for paying for or supplying any traffic control requirements for their event.

The fee for any event that requires traffic or road closures is as follows:

• $100 per day for an event involving one or two roads

• $200 per day for an event involving two to five roads

• $300 per day for an event involving five to 10 roads

• $500 per day for an event involving 10 or more roads
