Little Silver Mayor Dead at 76

Suzanne Castleman, a lifelong resident of Little Silver, had served in town government for 27 years.

Mayor Suzanne Castleman died Friday evening, Little Silver website editor Linda Goff said in an e-mail sent to Patch this morning.

Castleman, 76, was a lifelong resident of the borough who gave 27 years of service to her community government. She has served as mayor since 1994, and was on council prior to that, beginning in 1984.

"Mayor Suzy," as she was known, served on the Shade Tree Commission, Recreation Committee, Library Board, Personnel Committee and as Police Commissioner while in council.

Prior to council, she volunteered for the Little Silver Recreation Committee and PTO, and taught field hockey to grade school children, according to the borough web site.

In April of this year, she announced to spend more time with her family. Her husband Donald died in May at the age of 82.
