Irrigation Wells Coming to Little Silver Fields

Increased participation in the borough's recreation program has called for an upgrade of the borough's playing fields.

playing fields will get an upgrade in the fall when the borough begins to install irrigation wells to improve grass conditions, according to the borough's recreation director.

Wells will be installed to water fields at and , according to Recreation Director Doug Glassmacher, as well as the plantings at along Prospect Avenue.

"Over the past few years, recreation participation has increased significantly," said Glassmacher. "We have more participants than ever before."

The borough has budgeted $58,000 for the new irrigation system, according to Little Silver Borough Administrator Helen Gormley, adding that the wells cost $29,400 to install.

Glassmacher said the wells were not only a long-term investment but would allow the borough to create a better playing turf on those fields.

"It's a simple formula: You need the irrigation system to grow great grass," said Glassmacher, adding that well-fed sprinkler systems are already in place to water Sickles, borough and library fields.

"We are generally considered to have great fields," said Glassmacher of the borough, "and this just continues it."

fields are mediocre at best. Challenger field needs some sort of drainage system, any kind of rainstorm soaks the field for days

The fields are over used by for profit lacross & soccer clinics ,I hope the fees these groups pay will reflect the increased cost of this upkeep.

Did we even know about this? Memorial park looks like a grave yard, poorly done, just saying. And what about the the ladder truck we are supposedly buying? Which also means an addition to the fire house. Are we sharing this truck with surrounding towns or could we share a ladder truck from other town? Are you spending all our tax dollars Little Silver? Another reason why our taxes just keep going up and up.. Thought we were in a bad economy?

Memorial Park was a good idea but a minor complaint, why does it say memorial Park twice on the entrance way (crooked as well)? I had heard that is was supposed to say Little Silver on the other side. Also agree about money spent with tax dollars in this economy. People are leaving the state in droves as a result. Baby boomers will be taking all their business to other states where they can get more for their money. Sad, have lived in Monmouth county my whole life but looking into elsewhere in the near future. Makes me sad but the reality is that NJ is too expensive and the governor is too obnoxious for my taste.

Annual Budgets get passed because nobody shows up to the meetings to voice their objections or approval..Council must feel its ok to spend money because nobody goes to the council meetings...Most people do not want to voice their opinion at a meeting due to fear etc..
