Dodgeball Anyone?
Oceanport Council allows game on tennis courts on a trial basis
The Oceanport Borough Council decided Thursday night to allow dodgeball to be played on the borough tennis courts in Blackberry Bay Park on a trial basis.
One council member, Ellynn M. Kahle, voted against the decision because some tennis players who use the court are concerned that dodgeball will damage the net.
"It's a tennis court," Kahle said.

However, Councilman William Johnson said that the tennis court is paid for and maintained by taxes paid by all the residents, so the use of it should not be restricted to some residents. Adults who play dodgeball will use the court, which has lights, will use the court for two nights a week this summer.
Mayor Michael J. Mahon said that the borough can try the experiment for awhile, and revisit the decision later.

Dodgeball players want to use the tennis court because schools are closed in the summer, preventing indoor play there, and it is the only public recreation venue in town with a fence tall enough to prevent errant throws from going off the property.
